Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows
I am currently very happy. You will find out why in a couple of paragraphs. So, I haven't posted here in a while... not that I've been particularly busy. I've mostly been sitting around, because that's what unemployed people do. But a few things have been interrupting my sitting around. On monday I did the Responsible Service of Alcohol course, so now I can serve alcohol responsibly. Not only that, but I also did the Responsible Conduct of Gambling course yesterday, so I can conduct gambling responsibly, i.e. work somewhere with pokies. w00t! I bought the new David Gilmour album yesterday, and it's pretty good. Get it. Now. Mine was scratched which is annoying. But at least only one track was affected and I could download an unscratched replacement for my MP3 collection. Anyway today I am very happy/relieved because my hard drive, which stopped working two weeks ago, has mysteriously started working! Good thing I didn't smash it in a rage. Now I've got all my stuff back. It is a big relief because the setup on my other hard drive was pretty fucked up, and the computer was very prone to freezing. It angered me greatly. Now it's all good. For now. I also now have some content in the Other Stuff section of the site, formerly Projects.
Oops, I did it again
I just let another bloody saucepan boil dry! Luckily it wasn't to the extreme level of the other one because I remembered it, rather than smelled it from the other room. But it is still annoying. Anyway my job interview is in about 2 hours so I'd better get back to cramming for interview questions.
Today on Jerry Springer: "My computer's on drugs!"
This morning has been rather infuriating. I turned on my computer and it wouldn't start. It didn't seem too weird at first because there is some problem with my computer that means that when I start it, it tells me to put in a floppy disk and then when I press Alt, Ctrl, Del it starts fine. But this time it kept doing the same thing and not starting. A look in the BIOS revealed that it wasn't even recognising my hard drive (a new one, which I installed several months ago). So I put in my old hard drive, started it up, and this is what I saw: Apparently my monitor has been taking LSD. Which means my hard drive has probably OD'd on heroin or something. I just hope my CD drives don't start smoking... So basically I'm pretty pissed off. EDIT: Also this means that the cartoon I was working on is lost.
Mmmm, money!
I am pretty happy today because I have finally got some results from all my job hunting efforts. I got a call today asking me to come to an interview tomorrow at Subway, so unless I somehow screw up an interview for a job making sandwiches I will finally have an income! Income is good because it will allow me to get broadband. Then my internet time will be quite different - instead of spending most of my time waiting for things to download, I will spend my time actually doing stuff. I may even spend some of my newfound money on such things as more RAM for my snailesque computer, and a graphics tablet for my comic. And beer. Can't forget the beer. Mmmmm, beer. Cider's good too. I had some cider today (given to me last night by a friend in return for rescuing him when he locked his keys in his car) to celebrate my now significantly improved prospects of employment, and ergo money, and ergo beer. I'm going in circles here aren't I? To break the cycle of rambling about money and beer (even though they are great topics) I will mention a book I found today called A Briefer History of Time. It is a witty and clever account of the history of the universe up to now. It is free to download and at only 136 pages or so, you should definately read it, especially if you are too lazy to read its more lengthy namesake (which, in case you are exceedingly ignorant, is Stephen Hawkings' masterpiece A Brief History of Time).
Spewing in memory lane
This site is gaining popularity. Today I have exceeded my daily bandwidth limit, which means that people are here downloading my cartoons, songs, etc. So that's pretty cool. I see it as a success compared to my other websites which mostly sucked, even Pac-Man Dots which was pretty shit even though it got a mention in the Sydney Morning Herald. I am going to start trying a bit harder to update more so keep coming back, people. Also I have decided to put in the shout box that is on the front page of the site, so people can say stuff. If you have helped me achieve the milestone of exceeding my bandwidth limit today, I'd appreciate it if you'd say hi in the shout box. Also, my email address is now on the main page, so feel free to email me about whatever. But try not to send too many naked pictures of yourself unless you are hot. And female. This week's THC installment is up, if a day late. On to non-site-related stuff. I went to the Show last night. That was cool, we just drank, watched the demolition derby then buggered off to the pub. Then I walked through the drive-thru at Hungry Jack's, which was hilarious. Later we drank more and went around school reminiscing about the good old days and making mischief. We extracted a no-stopping sign from the ground and left it in the school, and took photos of each other in such places as the roof of the catwalk and on top of concrete awnings. We pulled another road sign out of the ground next to the highway after that. Good times!
PocketMod
I have just discovered something awesome: PocketMod. Basically it's a custom, disposable organiser. You choose what you want in it, eg. calendars, to-do lists, plain writing space, blank guitar TAB, unit conversion charts, games like Sudoku, etc. and then you print it on an A4 sheet and fold it a certain way and it's like a little book you carry around and use to stay organised. Screw PDAs, PocketMod rules! You can create custom pages too.
Kitchen folly
I am beginning to think I should just stay out of the kitchen. In a previous post I mentioned tempering a saucepan about a week ago, when I forgot I had some water on, and the water all evaporated and the saucepan got extremely hot... well I nearly did it again several days later. I remembered it before all the water boiled away, but enough had gone that I had to refill it which was annoying. And another time I had a pie in the oven and I set the kitchen timer on the microwave for 50 minutes... at least I thought I did. Several minutes later I heard a noise and thought, "that sounds like the microwave". Evidently I had set the microwave for 50 minutes by mistake, and it was already pretty hot inside. I sure am glad I heard it before the whole thing exploded or melted or something. I came across SorryGottaGo.com today. It's pretty cool, there's sound clips that provide excuses to get off the phone, like door knocks, beeping horns and boiling kettles as well as more bizarre things. I have formulated a plan to say weird stuff to telemarketers when they call, rather than my usual method of telling them to call back later and hoping they don't. Next time a telemarketer calls I will yell something utterly random, like "is this about that dolphin again? I've already fucking told you people, it was dead when I found it! Why would I want to eat a dolphin anyway? I don't even like seafood! I WILL NOT BE BLACKMAILED!!" and hang up.
Brrrrr
The weather is changing! It seems that now that it isn't summer it has suddenly decided to get cold and I find myself wearing long pants and a jacket. Which is kind of refreshing. I was so happy when it got warm enough to wear shorts and t-shirts and now it's changing again. Makes you think, doesn't it? The change of seasons is so gradual that we don't really notice how differently we live in summer and winter. Also, I accidentally tempered a saucepan yesterday. I forgot I had some water boiling and then the water boiled away and the dry pot got hotter and hotter until I could smell it. I cooled it by pouring water into it, which fizzed like crazy. It was cool. I am working on a flash cartoon which should be up in a week or so.
Cutting yet another ribbon... into tiny pieces
As you may know, the last entry on my former crude, hand-coded blog was that changes were afoot! And indeed they are. For today I unveil this blog which (almost) seamlessly integrates with my site due to my cunning editing of the Blogger template. This way, all my posts will be automagically archived... and stuff. If you see gaps between the menu buttons and know how to get rid of them, let me know. Because those gaps are pissing me off.
